QOTD: Slow burn or intense, immediate attraction?

While I love a good slow-burn romance as much as the next person, it’s really difficult to wait for sometimes. I am a big fan of the love-at-first-sight trope, where the attraction is just too intense to put off.

One teensy disclaimer before we start – while Escape You is a standalone romance, I highly recommend reading both of the previous books in the series (Unravel You and Provoke You), as you meet the other Cole brothers in those. You also get to see more of their family and how everything ties together. It’s definitely going to enhance your experience if you’ve already read those two, but by no means do you need to take my word for it.

This is another one of those series where I think each new book I read is the best, then the next one comes along and it blows the previous one out of the water. While I absolutely fell in love with Ela and Matt in Provoke You, I was hooked immediately with Mia and Tyler’s story. I’ve always been intrigued by mob stories – always a fair amount of danger and excitement to them. Knowing I was reading about another sexy Cole brother amped up the excitement on this story, as well.

Strong, Independent Characters

Mia is the poster child for a strong, independent, kickass female lead. I don’t think “damsel in distress” is even in her vocabulary. She’s my favorite type of lead character (not the whole mob boss thing). She’s taking over the “family business” after Uncle Mickey, their former leader, is killed and she’s basically got to prove that she’s just as strong as a man. She can kick ass and definitely take care of herself. The only problem is that she needs her crew to get that through their thick, male skulls.

Tyler. Wow.

I have loved all of the Cole brothers so far. Derek the billionaire and Matt the sexy ex-Marine! But Tyler is different. He’s more mysterious than the other two and I was almost immediately drawn to him. The fact that he’s an ATF agent and on the complete OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE LAW as Mia made this story even better! What are the odds? It’s like the Mob had a love-child with Romeo & Juliet. The result is Tyler and Mia.

What about the plot?

The plot for Escape You is entirely original. No lulls, not a re-write of some other popular story . . . just 100% originality. I liked that I didn’t spend the majority of the book waiting for them to act on their attraction. It happens within the first chapter. The attraction is there, it’s intense, and though they both agree they’re not in any place to get involved, a steamy night of passion still ensues.

Then there’s the secret identity part. When Tyler and Mia meet, no names are exchanged. Then Tyler goes undercover with the mob and he takes on the identity of Chase (the enemy boss’s grandson). So Mia’s fighting her attraction for him while thinking he’s the enemy. Throughout the entire book, you think there’s no chance these two are ever going to be together. How could this possibly work? He’s an ATF agent. It’s not like he’s going to be playing this part forever, right? Suspense, secret identities, and extremely intense attraction!

Escape You had the perfect balance of steam and suspense. Definitely one of my favorite reads of 2020 so far.

Moment of Truth – Did Escape You live up to the hype?

Oh my gosh, yes! Even if you haven’t read Love Over Logic (where Mia is first introduced), it’s an intense, sexy, suspenseful read. Tyler definitely lived up to the hype from his brothers, carrying on the Cole legacy of sexy, strong men. I went into this book with high expectations, just based on Diana’s other books, and every expectation was met (and even exceeded). I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
